Retail Marijuana Has Arrived in Snowmass Village

For 43 years now, Steven Wickes and Barbara Bakios-Wickes have made a name for themselves in Snowmass Village with their store, Sundance Liquor & Gifts. Now their son, Andrew, is continuing that local enterprising legacy from a new angle. Andrew’s business, the Snowmass Dispensary, opened in the Snowmass Center, the same shopping center where his parents work, at the end of 2021. According to the new business owner, he identified the ski town’s need for retail cannabis first-hand while working at the family store.

The ambiguous designation of “longtime local” around here is a badge of honor for many, but few families can claim a status that spans 43 years.

As operational manager of Sundance Liquor & Gifts, the beloved Snowmass Town Center store his parents Barbara and Steve opened in 1979, Andrew Wickes is leading a new business legacy in the Colorado cannabis industry.

“We probably received more positive comments about your application for this than we have for anything else,” Mayor Bill Madsen said at the meeting. The board received 13 emailed public comments prior to the hearing, all but two of them in support of the approval.
